The Grey Wolf
New Guy is still having great difficulty with The Pack, the TPack and the large animals on Talk Radio. The Pack continues to soil the environment, scare small animals, and hoard wealth. The TPack and large animals on Talk Radio call New Guy terrible names and demand New Guy leave the house The Pack wants.
Not long ago, a great storm descended upon the land. New Guy worked very hard to keep small animals of the land safe. The Pack did not. Instead, they met to devise ways of protecting themselves and their money. The Pack did not want to help the small animals clean up after the storm, even though the small animals paid Pack members a LOT of money to do so. Remember, The Pack wants to make – and keep – a LOT of money. Small animals of the land do not matter to them. Alec makes sure that The Pack gets what it wants.
New Guy is also having trouble because The Pack (and those it placed on the council) has been picking on average, every-day small animals. The Pack has taken away their homes or made them very, very expensive. The Pack, who employs some small animals, demands very hard work for very little money. The Pack threatens to fire small animals and with Alec’s help, tries to eliminate the guilds the small animals have built to protect themselves. Recently, the badgers tried very hard to change this by standing up to The Pack and Alec. The badgers did very well, but more work needs to be done.
As if this were not bad enough, The Pack (and those it placed on the council) also began picking on the old and sick small animals of the land. The Pack and members of the council believe the old and sick cost too much money. The Pack and council members warn the land about its debt and blame it on the old and sick small animals. The large animals on Talk Radio say terrible things and scare citizens of the land into believing this is true. But not all small animals believe it, some know the truth.
In fact, the irony of blaming old and sick small animals was not lost on the badgers and other citizens of the land. They know that these same Pack and council members, not long ago, spent a great deal of money harming citizens of distant lands and many small animals sent to do this. They knew it was The Pack and the council who brought the land great debt, but this was not spoken of - especially by the large animals on Talk Radio.
Many small animals know, sadly, that some Pack members and Friend had made a lot of money harming citizens of foreign lands. This can be profitable. Elderly animals on the other hand, are not profitable - well, not usually. Remember, no matter what, The Pack’s goal is to make a LOT of money.
One day, a group of small animals gathered in the hollow of a large tree. They turned on their tiny radio to hear the Grey Wolf speak.
The Grey Wolf is not what you are thinking. The Grey Wolf is a wise, true defender of small animals. The Pack is afraid of the Grey Wolf because he is an Independent member of the council. The Grey Wolf does not take gifts from The Pack; he does not play ball with them. The Grey Wolf challenges The Pack and council members. The Grey Wolf stands up to The Pack, the TPack, large animals on Talk Radio, and members of the council - he has done this for many years. The Grey Wolf takes his promise to protect and defend the land very, very seriously.
The Grey Wolf speaks plainly and clearly about the The Pack’s numerous misdeeds. He uses facts to explain how The Pack soils the environment, chews furniture, hurts small animals, and makes a LOT of money in terrible ways. He reminds small animals that The Pack, The TPack, many council members and large animals on Talk Radio do not care about small or elderly animals. The Grey Wolf tells stories of small animals who are charged great fees for their burrows or have them taken away. They Grey Wolf offers solutions to protect elderly and sick small animals. The Grey Wolf is a great friend to small animals, non-pack members and citizens of the land.
As they listened, the small animals heard the Grey Wolf demand change from The Pack and council members. Several small animals got an idea - they would journey to see the Grey Wolf.
They Grey Wolf met the small animals at the door. He invited them in and did not charge them $15 as some council members do. Many citizens of the land were tired of The Pack, the TPack, and the mean council members they explained. They were tired of being afraid, tired of their guilds being challenged; they were tired of wars in foreign lands and very, very tired of The Pack making A LOT of money at their expense. They asked for his help.
The Grey Wolf patiently listened to them. He nodded in agreement, took notes and asked questions. Then, the Grey Wolf spoke.
He told the small animals and non-pack members that one wolf could only do so much. Yes, certainly, there were other wolves on the council, but this was not enough. He promised to keep speaking about the misdeeds of The Pack and the council. He promised to keep fighting for their interests and speaking about their needs in open council and on the radio. He promised to appear on television more and challenge The Pack on its bad behavior. The Grey Wolf also told the small animals that they, too, must do their part.
The Grey Wolf advised the small animals and non-pack members to work for change. He told them to write letters and make telephone calls to their own council members. He told them to write letters to newspapers, to demonstrate, to spend their dollars wisely and not support The Pack. The Grey Wolf reminded the small animals that each one had a voice and a vote. He sternly admonished them to not “sit out” when New Guy needed them.
One small animal, a gopher with a great spirit, seemed puzzled by Grey Wolf’s last piece of advice and spoke up. She asked the Grey Wolf if he supported New Guy. The Grey Wolf thought for a moment. True, he did not always agree with New Guy. Grey Wolf did not like New Guy’s attempts to make peace with The Pack and the TPack at the expense of small animals of the land. The Grey Wolf chuckled and reminded the gopher that New Guy was a much better choice that the very scary Pack Member from the gopher’s own backyard. All the small animals nodded and laughed. An armadillo spoke up and confided his fear about the council member and Pack members from his backyard. The Grey Wolf laughed heartily and told the armadillo that this was a discussion for another day.
The Grey Wolf explained that with their help – all their help – New Guy could get back on track and rid the land of The Pack’s misdeeds. Grey Wolf and the other wolves on the council would demand this. They, too, were ready to fight and hold everyone accountable. The Grey Wolf reminded the small animals that New Guy would, however, need another term in the house The Pack wanted to make these changes.
The Grey Wolf thanked the small animals for coming, he applauded their spirit and reminded them to continue working very hard against The Pack. Together, Grey Wolf said, the could stop The Pack’s misdeeds; but they needed four more years.
